Trolls are much like vampires in that regard, then. Spike often slept during the daytime. Have you found the blackout curtains helpful for sleeping through the daylight hours?

Curtains wouldn't be a bad idea! There's so much fucking sun on this planet.

What's a vampire?

The curtains that Spike used are upstairs in the largest of the bedrooms. I made certain to leave them, that you would have some decoration.

A vampire is one who cannot stand the sunlight - it will kill him. He lives in the night, and survives by drinking blood. Spike would drink the blood of animals he hunted in the wastes, and then bring the carcasses home for me to cook for my meals.

... A rainbow drinker?

Is that the term among trolls for one who drinks blood to live? It is quite a lovely phrase.

No way! Moirallegiance is pale romance. It's one of our quadrants, but it's really boring to explain.

Karkat is the talkative one among you, yes? The one who uses many words to say very little? He is most rude whenever I speak with him. I would rather not speak with him if I can help it. He takes delight in insulting those to whom he speaks.

I would not do such a thing, Vriska. You have asked for my confidence, and you have it.

That's a great description of him. So true! Man, he's such an asshole.

That is the term he uses when he refers to you and the other trolls. That is part of why I think him rude. To convey such opinions in private is one thing, but to publicly ridicule you all as he does when he wishes to speak with you - unless the word does not carry negative connotation in the language of trolls, he is most inconsiderate.

Everyone talks like that. He's annoying as fuck, but not because of how he talks.

I see. Such language is common in troll, then? It is not so among humans - at least not if one wishes to be polite. It is yet another difference in our two cultures. I shall attempt to keep it in mind.

Why do you care so much about being polite?

It is something we are taught from an early age, at least in Verona. To be kind and polite. To show respect to one's elders and betters. To be kind to those less fortunate than we are. They are lessons which came naturally to me, and I do not wish to give offense to anyone, if I can help it. I would prefer to be kind and to learn what I can about everything.

Will you get culled if you aren't?

Not culled, no. But Father is not above using a switch or other corporal punishments if we do not live up to his expectations. And should we be truly remiss, we shall have to answer to Friar Laurence or one of the other monks, and declare our sins before God. No one wishes to burn in Hell for failing to be kind to his fellow man.
