[see Vriska lurking around about a hundred yards from the perimeter wall of the Inner City-- she's not approaching it or making any threatening movements, but she's definitely checking it out]

[her eyes are on the guards, so she's not paying as much attention to the ground as much as she should... which is made obvious when it suddenly falls out from under her, and she disappears with a surprised shriek and a loud thump]

The menfolk do. They do not allow the ladies to fend for themselves in any true sense of the phrase. They believe us to be too fragile for such things.

That is so weird. It doesn't even make sense! You're dating a guy; does that mean he has to be the only strong one and take care of you all the time? And what about a girl dating another girl? They'd be culled in a second!

The longer I remain here, the more I agree. It makes little sense.

But yes, your father and male relatives care for you until you are wed, and then your husband sees to your safety and well-being. And in my time, the very idea of two ladies falling in love with one another is considered a sin against God. The Church condemns such practices as immoral, as it does if two men fall in love.

[She shakes her head at that. It is one of the few places where she actively disagrees with the Church, now that she's seen for herself what such love looks like, and has found it no different.]

Seriously? Why?

There are passages in our Holy Book which condemn such acts.

But, love cannot be immoral, I do not think. I think perhaps the words refer to such things without love, because love is pure and good always. And surely, were such things truly a sin against God, His angels would have struck down those here who love in such ways, would they not? In the Bible, those who commit grievous sins are struck down by the Lord and His servants. That it has not happened leads me to think I am right in my belief.

Soooooooo not only do you only have one quadrant, but you're only allowed to date people who aren't the same gender as you? You're lucky you aren't culled for not finding a mate! If you were, you'd probably all be dead!

It is very different to how your people find their love, indeed. I have been told such strict interpretations change over time, however. And I have seen such myself since I have been in the city. I think we humans learn as a whole as the years pass.

Trolls don't! We've pretty much always stayed the same. I guess we just started out so awesome that we didn't need to improve on anything!

Your people do seem far more enlightened in some ways than mine own.

[Vriska hadn't even noticed the slip-up, mostly because, while she thinks it's cool and kind of funny that most of the people here only know her roleplaying name, she doesn't care all that much if she's found out]
