We don't really have friends like that! In ancient Alternian "friend" and "enemy" are the same word.

You humans have the weirdest ways of doing stuff.

Truly? How did one tell those one liked and trusted from the ones one did not? And what do you call those whom you do like and trust?

I am sure many of our customs seem strange to those who do not grow up learning them. Some seem strange to me, and I know them well. And different humans have different customs, depending on when and where they are from. It can be most confusing.

You trust the people in your quadrants, with some things. Most people it's not a good idea to trust at all.

Is there no one you may trust without reservations?

I fear I would make a very poor troll. I prefer to place my trust in people, and like to think their natures good, unless I have proof that they are not.

Why the fuck would I want to do that? That's just asking to be culled.

Not in this place, Vriska. There is no culling here. The rules of Adstringendum are different to the rules in any of our homes.

Well, okay, but if I got all soft here then where would I be when I got home? In shit city!

It - it is said that when we return home, we remember nothing of our time here. While I would hope that is not entirely true, for I do not wish to forget everyone and everything that has happened, if it is so, then you will not have to worry about trouble when you return.

Still not a good reason to become a weakling!

I would no more suggest you become a weakling than I would suggest my cousin stop practicing with his knife. Being strong is part of who you are, and what makes you Vriska. I would not be so arrogant as to say you should be less than who you are. But I do not see trusting another as a weakness. To know that there is someone who will keep your secrets, who will look out for you in times of need - that allows you to be strong.

[The question is unexpected, and she takes a moment to think on it.]

There is a small part of me which does, if I am honest with myself. I have thought much over my actions of the event, and I find that they stem from thoughts I have had, but to which I had not given voice. I think, should such an attack be planned well and stand a good chance of success, it would be foolish to let the opportunity slip past. I am not a violent person by nature, but I do not trust them - not after they have taken so many for whom I care deeply from me. But I fear to attack now would only lead to the temporary death this place brings, and to the loss of something which may be invaluable to us.

So we wait and plan! I guess I can do that.

That sounds very like something Tybalt would say. He dislikes doing nothing as well. You should speak with him when he is not addled by the Animus. I think you will like him, and he, you.

Which one's Tybalt?

My cousin. He has long brown hair, and darker skin than mine own. It was he who announced that Bubbles had left. You spoke with him briefly, but he was not himself at all. In truth, his temper is usually far more like mine was in that week. He is the warrior in our family, the one who always protects us from enemies.

Oh, him. I gueeeeeeeess I could take some time out of my busy schedule to talk to him.

[She smiles at that.]

You are welcome for dinner whenever is convenient for you, and the three of us may speak at leisure. I will be careful to call you by your title, should you decide to accept the invitation, so worry not on that count.

When do humans have dinner?

Humans dine in the early evening, but if that is not a suitable time for trolls, there is always breakfast or lunch - early morning and mid-day.

Early evening's fine! Trolls are usually asleep during the day.

Trolls are much like vampires in that regard, then. Spike often slept during the daytime. Have you found the blackout curtains helpful for sleeping through the daylight hours?

Curtains wouldn't be a bad idea! There's so much fucking sun on this planet.

What's a vampire?

The curtains that Spike used are upstairs in the largest of the bedrooms. I made certain to leave them, that you would have some decoration.

A vampire is one who cannot stand the sunlight - it will kill him. He lives in the night, and survives by drinking blood. Spike would drink the blood of animals he hunted in the wastes, and then bring the carcasses home for me to cook for my meals.
